Barbara Mary Bermel
Barbara Mary Bermel of Islip Terrace, Long Island, NY, died on May 3, 1975 at the age of 28. Barbara had one daughter, Carrie Nettleton of Glastonbury, CT. Barbara was the third oldest to fifteen siblings of Joseph and Virginia Bermel, her parents. She is survived by her grandmother, her parents, her daughter, and her seven brothers and seven sisters. She reposed at the Overton Funeral Home, Main St., Islip, until May 7th when a mass was offered in St. Mary’s R.C. Church, East Islip. Interment followed in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Bay Shore.
Barbara paved the way for women in the State of Connecticut becoming the first female registered broker for Merrill Lynch and was sought after by the media through weekly live reports on local radio broadcasts. On Long Island where Barbara grew up, she held a newspaper route in elementary school. During the summer breaks as a student at Seton Hall High School, she waitressed and was a lifeguard on the South Shore of Long Island. Following her undergraduate college years at Trinity, Barbara began graduate studies at Bowling Green University while her husband Ronald Nettleton, U.S. Army first lieutenant, was stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Barbara went on to earn her MBA at Stony Brook University on Long Island.
Maureen Anne Costello, 63, died October 16, 2009 in State College, PA. Daughter of the late William Edward Costello and Evelyn (Douglas) Costello,
Maureen served in the Peace Corps and taught (at the Middle Eastern Technological University) in Turkey for 10 years.
For the past 22 years, she worked as academic advisor to international students at The Pennsylvania State University, which established The Maureen Costello Service Excellence Award in her honor
Maureen lived her philosophy: “We all share in the responsibility to make things better." She was a passionate advocate for students, a dedicated volunteer at Paws, and a beloved sister, friend and aunt.
She is survived by her brother, William Costello and his wife, Rosemary, her sister, Ellen Costello and her husband, Geoffrey Greene and their children Stephen, Jonathan, and Caitlin.
The family extends thanks to all who supported Maureen during her long illness. Memorial Service at Penn State’s Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, Garden Room on Friday, November 6 at 2PM. Jane Paula Grobe died in 1972. Interment was at St. Charles Cemetery, East Farmingdale, N.Y.
Christine Hourigan McPherson of North Smithfield, R.I.died on February 27, 2005 She is survived by her husband, Gregory and son, Patrick. Internment is at St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone, Ma.
Diane Lavin-Ging of Rocky Point, NY, died on June 6, 2007. She is survived by two sons. Internment is at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Port Jefferson, NY.
Eileen McDonald-Lubin of East Granby, Ct., died in November of 1979.
On June 3, 2008, age 62, of Orchard Hill Road, Bradford, MA, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Lowell Healthcare Center, after a courageous battle with Huntington's Disease. She was the wife of the late Jerry "Poopsie" McDonald. Daughter of Evelyn (Matick) Buontempo of Rochester, NH. Mother of Brian McDonald and his wife Sarah of Centerville, VA, 3 daughters Karen Morrissey and husband Michael of Haverhill, MA, Tina Boyer and husband Bill of Bradford, MA and Tracey Hutchinson and husband Paul of Groveland, MA; one brother Donald Pratt and wife Barbara of Epping, NH and Sharon Hickey and husband Bob of Gilford, NH; 6 grandchildren, Megan and Sean Morrissey, Zachary McDonald, Kyle McDonald, and Sam and Max Boyer, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass Friday, June 6 at 11 AM in St. Joseph's Church of Holy Family Parish on School St. in Amesbury, MA. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the E.V. Mary Frances Nordberg, 19, of Holden, MA died Monday, May 6, 1966 at home. She was a sophomore at Trinity College, Burlington, Vt.
Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Carl and Mary Nordberg and lived in Holden for 15 years. Miss Nordberg was graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1964. She was the president of her senior class. She was the vice-president of her freshman class at Trinity College.
Miss Nordberg was a member of St. Mary’s parish in Jefferson and the National Society of High School Poets.
Besides her parents, she leaves four brothers and her grandparents. The funeral will be held Thursday from Miles Funeral Home with a High Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson. Burial will be private. The family requests flowers be omitted. Memorial donations may be made to the Holden District Hospital Building Fund.
Pat ended her 41 year fight against metastatic cancer on Thursday, October 20, 2016. She passed at home under hospice care, attended by Brian, her husband of 48 years, and her sisters,Jeanne Keenan and Elaine Stinchfield. She suffered greatly and is now at peace.
Pat and Bryan retired to Edwards, Colorado from Vienna, Virginia in April of 2006. She enthusiastically joined in the active outdoor retiree population hiking, snowshoeing and skiing.
Pat never missed volunteering for many of the Vail Valley Foundation events every year------from stuffing envelopes in the office to registering the media at the events. CAN DO/Multiple Sclerosis was another volunteer opportunity she relished.
Pat is survived by her husband, Bryan; son, Kelly; daughter-in-law, Genevieve; and grandchildren, Anna and Oliver, of Truckee, Ca. A memorial Catholic mass was held at the Beaver Creek Chapel on Friday, Nov. 4
