What a wild and wonderful weekend – even allowing for our trepidations and minor leaps of courage to arrive. Clearly not one of us was in the least bit disappointed!
Thursday night’s Reception couldn’t have been more welcoming – just plain magical, in fact. Clues were most appreciated such as yearbook photos attached to our name tags, and Diane’s fabulous website to ease us into the mix. The www.tcclassof1968.org collection of photos and stories worked as the best clue in the mystery of who we are – the website a veritable pied piper encouraging and energizing even the most resistant of us to attend. How brilliantly it connected us – dynamic women each strikingly accomplished and intriguingly interesting.
While continuing our ‘meet and greet’, sipping a cocktail or two, catching up on all that was possible to squeeze into our evening, we were presented with a lovely meal to enjoy among great friends. It almost seemed as if 50 years had passed through our fingers like sand.
Meanwhile elegantly integrated into the festivities appeared the award ceremony. Kathy Toohey Andrew and Mary Victoria Hayes devised, designed, and presented tributes both to Diane Dudzinski and to Carol Muller for their gleaming contributions.
Kathy’s illuminating description of the process in which Carol and Diane conceived, improvised, and executed the TC Class of 1968 50th Reunion was further enhanced by the marvelously unexpected tributes and tokens of our appreciation. Gift certificates were awarded to Diane and to Carol to use at various Burlington haunts, as well as an astonishing photo array from previous Reunion gatherings cleverly adhered to poster boards signed by all of this year’s participants as mementos of our gratitude.
Carol received high praise and applause for her extraordinary orchestration of the Reunion, in effect, by gathering a diverse group dispersed throughout the country into one place at one time amidst, and in spite of, all the usual complexities intrinsic to so many lives. No question those few short years we spent together long ago in Burlington held great meaning and deep connections to sustain and intertwine us so firmly.
In addition, grateful appreciation was showered on Diane who so brilliantly designed our sparklingly inventive website. While her husband, Don Blauweiss, who created our very own original Trinity College of Vermont 50th Reunion logo was recognized and thanked for his stellar contribution.
Friday found us all over the map. Some sailed until the thunderstorm forced the schooner to the dock, some shopped, some wine tasted, many lunched on Church Street.
Friday evening gathered us at Trader Duke’s -- loud and lovely visions of the Mill astonishingly clear in our minds -- so many stories so little time. Ironically no predetermined curfew was required, as curfews now seem to be self-imposed. Who knew?!
Saturday luncheon at the official 2018 Reunion of the Trinity College of Vermont Association of Alumni and Friends held at Trader Duke’s was dominated by the Class of 1968. More than 40 of us attended, astonishing in and of itself considering not only that it’s 50 years later, but also that there were fewer than 90 in the whole class. Plus, the attendance number from our class broke all the records from all the Reunions Trinity College has ever hosted. Not to gloat, but…way to go, gals!
How proud we all felt to see our own Carol Muller once again at the podium, offering guidance for future reunions. In Carol’s footsteps one of our other classmates, Ellen McCaffrey received the Alumna of the Year Award for her years of service to the College and to the Alumni Association.
Rave reviews by one and all for an extra special treat gifted to us by our classmate Mary Ann Mahoney Kadish’s daughter-in-law who makes Whoopie Pies. Shannon Kadish created them especially for us using our new ‘official’ TC Class of 1968 50th Reunion logo created by Don Blauweiss. Check out her website www.timeoutforwhoopie.com and let her know how much we appreciated her baking skills, her thoughtfulness, and her Whoopie Pies which brought smiles to every face.
Magic moments, indeed… roomies reconnecting…deep admiration for all who face life’s challenges and plow through with grace and aplomb…stunned realization that so many of our classmates worked and lived lives of service. Ridiculous memories of ridiculous stories and experiences laughing much too loudly throughout… the unique pleasure of running into our TC friends here there and everywhere throughout Burlington….wine tasting with many of the same gals we partied with in college… keenly aware that we women who grew up together are connected in oh so many ways and mean a great deal to each other…. a truly joyful few days of re-energizing renewal shared by all.
Now it’s your turn, ladies…. We’ll continue to remind ourselves of all that we shared, and no doubt a bit that we easily might have missed. Send your photos to Diane at diane@blauweissadvertising.com or Carol at muller@gmavt.net. Then send in your comments to ellen@emilybusinessforms.com to be compiled, condensed, and shared
Many many thanks to all. Here’s to our 55th – June 2023?!
